Being healthy goes beyond physical health; it's also about mental and emotional health. Behavioral health is an important aspect of overall health and wellness, and it involves the way we think, feel, and behave. Here are some tips on how to improve our quality of life.
- Manage Stress
Managing chronic stress effectively can help us maintain good physical and mental health. A few effective techniques for managing stress include exercise, meditation, massage therapy, and spending time in nature. Speaking with a trusted friend or mental health professional can be helpful as well.
- Prioritize Sleep
Getting enough sleep is essential for good behavioral health. Lack of sleep can lead to irritability, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night and establish a regular sleep schedule to get the most out of your sleep.
- Build Strong Relationships
Support from loved ones can help us cope with stress and improve our overall well being. Make time for the people you care about, and cultivate new friendships through hobbies or community activities.
- Stay Active
Regular exercise is important for both physical and behavioral health. It can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve mood, and boost self-esteem. Find an activity you enjoy, whether it's Yoga, Zumba, or Marital Arts, which we reimburse at USFHP, and make it a regular part of your routine.
- Doctor Checkups
Always keep up to date with yearly checkups and never ignore any health issues you may be experiencing. At USFHP, we prioritize cancer screenings for women and men (breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer), comprehensive eye and kidney care for diabetic patients, imaging studies for low back pain, and many more routine health checkups for our members.
Whenever you or a loved one is experiencing mental or physical health concerns don’t hesitate to speak with a trusted friend, family member, or healthcare professional. Remember seeking help is a sign of strength.
The USFHP Primary Health Care Plan provides routine doctor's visits, hospitalization, prescription coverage, preventative health care coverage, and specialty care. We’ve also developed incentive programs that reward our members for meeting certain health goals.
