Sometimes keeping your family healthy can feel like a full-time job, but we’re here to help. Whether you’re trying to maintain your health or get your health back on track we understand that optimal health is your goal. We also understand how great of an impact poor health can have on the family as a whole. When one is suffering, everyone is suffering. Parents want their children to live long healthy lives and learn how to take care of their bodies the right way, and kids want their parents to have the stamina to keep up with them for years to come!
Every family has unique health concerns and struggles but improving your relationships with one another can have a bigger impact on your health than you realize. “Social support is one of the main ways that family positively impacts health. Social relationships, such as those found in close families, have been demonstrated to decrease the likelihood of the onset of chronic disease, disability, mental illness, and death.”
You may also have heard of the Rabbit Effect, which came about due to a study conducted in the 1970s, where scientists studied the heart health of two groups of rabbits. One group, although given the same high-fat foods, seemed to be doing much better than the other. To the researchers’ surprise, they discovered the particular scientist working with the healthy rabbits would hold, pet, and talk to the rabbits in his group. According to Kelli Harding, who later wrote a book titled, The Rabbit Effect, “It wasn't diet or genetics that made a difference in which rabbits got sick and which stayed healthy. It was kindness." In order for us to achieve optimal health for our families, we need to increase opportunities for positive interaction and love. Let’s work together to make our homes a healthier place.
