May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month! It’s a great time to get up, get moving, and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime. At US Family Health Plan (USFHP), we want to help military families and retirees stay active and feel their best.
Why Being Active Is Important
Moving your body helps you:
- Sleep better – Exercise can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply.
- Feel happier – Physical activity boosts your mood and helps reduce stress.
- Keep your heart strong – It helps your heart stay healthy and lowers your risk of heart problems.
- Build strong bones – Activities like walking, dancing, or lifting weights can make your bones stronger.
- Have more energy – Exercise helps you feel less tired during the day.
- Stay positive – Moving your body can help you feel more confident and in control.
Fun Ways to Get Active This Month
Here are some easy and fun ways to get moving:
- Dance it out – Play your favorite songs and have a dance party at home.
- Create a backyard game day – Try sack races, hula hoop contests, or jump rope.
- Take movement breaks – Stand up and stretch or walk around during long screen time.
- Join a local event – Look for fitness walks or sports events in your community or online.
