Hi FAM,

In our 1st blog of the year we talked about the top 4 New Year Resolutions people make and we gave you some ways to help you keep them.

For the next four weeks we will take each resolution and provide you with motivation to keep you vigilant and focused.

Week 1:

Smoking is one of the most common and deadliest habits in the world and US Family Health Plan wants to help you quit this horrible addiction. Quitting can be hard and we are dedicated to helping you quit and live a healthier lifestyle. large.jpg

One important thing to be aware of when trying to quit is alternatives. Two of the most common types of smokeless tobacco used in the United States are chewing tobacco and snuff. Smokeless tobacco is not safe and can lead to cancer and oral health problems.

Use of tobacco can cause:

Heart disease

Lung disease

Cancer

Hospitalizations

Missed workdays

Failed fitness evaluations

Impaired night vision

USFHP TRICARE Prime offers many ways to help break the cycle such as:

Quit lines

Counseling services

Tobacco Cessation products

We cover tobacco cessation counseling from any USFHP TRICARE Prime authorized provider in the U.S.

USFHP also covers tobacco cessation products which include:

Prescriptions

Products such as:

Chantix (Varenicline tablets)

Zyban and generics (Buproprin SR tablets)

Nicotrol NS (Nicotine nasal spray)

Nicotrol (Nicotine inhalation)

Nicoderm CQ and Habitrol (Nicotine transdermal)

Nicorette, Nicorelief and generics (Nicotine gum)

Nicorette, Commit and generics (Nicotine lozenge)Over-the-counter drugs

To qualify for these products:

Must be 18 or older

Not be eligible for Medicare

Have a prescription

To get these prescriptions filled, contact Maxor pharmacy to get it filled at no cost.

Limitations:

There is a limit of two quit attempts each year

A third quit may be covered in a year with a physician justification and preauthorization

A quit attempt equals 120 days of the tobacco cessation product. If you also get counseling that overlaps your product use by at least 60 days. It’s considered a single quit attempt.

Become healthier for the New Year for you and your loved ones, take advantage of these benefits USFHP- A TRICARE Prime option offers.
