No single food provides all the nutrition and health benefits needed to nourish the body, however there are specific foods, known as “superfoods”, that offer a great amount of nutrients.
Smoothies are a quick and tasty way to satisfy your hunger and can be a great source of nutrition, depending on the ingredients used to make them. Starting your day with these superfood smoothies can bring out the wellness warrior in you. Because so many different superfoods can be blended, let's get into the most powerful ones to use when making your smoothies. In addition to packing a powerful source of energy, this helps further enhance healthy eating patterns.
Berries. Berries are high in fiber and their rich colors mean they are high in antioxidants and disease-fighting nutrients. Some of the best berries to use are blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, goji berries, and acai berries.
Dark, Leafy greens. Dark, leafy greens like kale and spinach are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and calcium. They also add fiber into the diet as well as several phytochemicals (chemicals made by plants).
Fermented Foods. Fermented foods are easier for the body to digest and are full of probiotics. Some examples would be Sauerkraut, kimchi, plant-based yogurt, and kombucha.
Chia and Hemp Seeds. All nuts and seeds are filled with healthy components, but two particular ones stand out and they are chia and hemp. They both are great for boosting brain and immune health as they contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids.
Cocoa and Dark Chocolate. Regular consumption of dark chocolate has been shown to help improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and improve brain function.
Sea Moss. It provides plenty of vitamin B2 and B12, along with a small amount of calcium. Plus, it is powerful for your immune system, in addition to being a supplement to help with some chronic diseases.
